Holly Hollenbeck’s Reinvented A-Frame In Truckee, $1.5
Author:Philip Ferrato
For the past two decades, San Francisco designer Holly Hollenbeck’s projects have been seamlessly embracing both the classic and the most modern elements of design, and her Little Owl A-frame getaway—named after the tiny Whet-Saw owls that populate the woods—in Truckee is no exception.
At first glance, the Little Owl A-Frame is exactly what it looks like– a cliché of the mid-century vacation/ski resort genre—which also makes it a classic. Hollenbeck’s adroitly transformed it with a complete renovation, one ranging from new windows and cedar siding to pale whitewashed Baltic birch interior cladding, and in a nod to the past reinvented, the extensive use of custom terrazzo by Concrete Collaborative throughout the kitchen and baths. The house is offered fully furnished, so, mindful of a real estate cliché, you just need to bring your toothbrush. And skis.
Terrazzo floors may date back to the Romans and covered acres of airport terminals (plus Palm Springs interiors) but the kitchen island immediately reminded us of Shiro Kuramata’s terrazzo tables from the ‘80s.

More: Not surprisingly, The Little Owl A-Frame is on Instagram, where Holly has documented the process of renovation.
