Glamorous Renovation In Pacific Heights, $19.95M
Author:Philip Ferrato
Pacific Heights is one of San Francisco’s loveliest neighborhoods, with quiet tree-lined streets lined with exceptional homes, each one a snapshot of a particular moment in the town’s history. This 2018 renovation of an especially lovely Queen Anne Victorian by interior designer Nicole Hollis is a perfect example, preserving the facade while giving it a 21st Century interior. Hollis came to the project after it had been gutted to the studs, and while the house is currently staged for sale, Hollis’ elegant interior ‘bones’ remain, and it’s easy to see why the project was the winner of the our 2020 Residential Interior Design Award.
Pedigree: 2602 Pacific Street was built in 1889 at the peak of the Queen Anne Victorian Style by Samuel Newsom, a member of the influential California architecture dynasty and an ancestor of Governor Gavin Newsom. The legendary Meg Ryan purchased it soon after the filming of When A Man Loves A Woman and lived there in the early 90s with then-husband Dennis Quaid. No trace of the very ‘90s Ryan-Quaid interiors remain, however.
The dining room flows seamlessly into the kitchen/ family room (at top and below) and a deck with views across the Bay to Marin County.
What We Love: Unlike so many Victorian row houses, it’s got three exposures. Situated adjacent to the front garden of William Wurster’s elegant brick Fleischacker House (constructed further downslope in 1937) there’s lots of Eastern light, especially on the upper floors. Below, the master suite.
The lower has a flexible family room space with walls of glass opening to a covered patio, plus a mud room, a full bath and the three-car garage.
At the top of the house, the fourth level is a media room and entertaining space with a bar and an enviable deck. All four levels are connected by elevator.
