Escape to West Marin’s Dillon Beach Resort for a Dreamy Oceanside Getaway
Author:Michelle KonstantinovskyThe Bay Area has no shortage of sweet seaside spots, but there’s something uniquely special about Dillon Beach Resort. The family-friendly destination has the distinction of being California’s only private beach in California and its history dates back more than 130 years. When a native Marin County family purchased the property in April 2018, they made a commitment to honor the original footprint of the historic site, updating the property with three Coastal Cabins and 12 well-appointed Tiny Homes. Thirteen additional Tiny Homes are on track to be completed by next summer, and the hidden gem is set to shine brighter as more visitors and locals alike discover its magic.
The accessible dog-friendly beach along 55-acres of private coastline offers families, solo travelers, couples, and anyone on the lookout for chill vibes and gorgeous scenery a welcome reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the City. In addition to the cozy, fuss-free accommodations, visitors can expect to find all sorts of trinkets and goodies at the property’s Dillon Beach Surf Shop + General Store, which is stocked with everything from t-shirts and salt water taffy to commemorative coffee mugs and everyday essentials.
While there’s plenty to appreciate at the resort, one major highlight is Coastal Kitchen. The casual dining spot is to-die-for, thanks to the culinary magic of Chef Jennifer McMurry, formerly of Viola Pastry Boutique and The Pharmacy. Since taking over the helm in May 2021, McMurry has produced drool-worthy dishes sourced from local produce, cheese, meat, and bread, including Stemple Creek Ranch, Hog Island Oyster Company, and Fort Point Beer Company, among others. Everything on the menu is a must-try, but some standouts include the peach and corn salsa, beet & avocado toast, fish & chips, and the fried chicken sandwich. And definitely don’t pass up the organic nectarine galette — you will regret it.
