The Tree House

“This home feels much like a modern treehouse, situated with incredible views of the Marin Headlands on a hillside in Mill Valley,” says Jennifer Wundrow, founder and principal of Jennifer Wundrow Interior Design about this Bay Area home she and her team brought to life for a Brazilian couple and their young daughter. “They wanted this home to feel like a retreat, using natural finishes, luxurious fabrics and custom furniture along with fun pops of color. They trusted us completely to help create a home that felt comfortable and lively at the same timeāin all the right ways.”
The clients purchased the 3,845-square-foot, ground-up residence in 2021 just after it was completed by Richardson Pribuss Architects and Eastwood Development. “They moved in with a mattress on the floor and a few boxes of clothes, but the house was generally a blank slate,” she recalls. “They desired a space that felt like a retreat but were quite adamant that the products used in their home were well constructed and cohesive.”
“We believe that interiors are about the people who inhabit them,” says Wundrow. “Each interior space should be a unique reflection of the people who dwell there while weaving in layers and textures to create a room’s own story. Because of this, it allows JWID to not adhere to one particular design style, but rather explore all design aesthetics.” They followed their philosophy closely with this project by infusing the newly-built home with custom furniture that is durable for entertaining and family fun and artistic pops of color and texture that appealed to the couple’s vibrant heritage.
They didn’t have any demanding requests or existing collections that Wundrow had to consider, therefore, she got to run wild with her own concepts while keeping their everyday life top of mind. “Our clients were openly supportive and willing to trust us implicitly in the design of their home, which in turn made the process mutually enjoyable for everyone involved,” she remarks. “They welcomed us and our ideas with open arms every time, resulting in a home infused with luxe textiles, custom-designed furniture and a space they are proud to call home.”
