Founded in 2012, Garde is a jewel box of home decor finds, from ceramics to lighting, furniture to throws, to candles, jewelry and clothing, that enchant (the spell comes full circle with the store’s Summerland outpost, Garde House, with a shop downstairs and a one-bedroom apartment above, available to rent through AirBnB, where guests can fully immerse themselves overnight in the magic of what good design can bring to their lives). Now the slender shop has expanded into a larger space a few doors east.
Sitz’s background as a Calvin Klein and Giorgio Armani executive is apparent in the shop’s understated aura which puts the focus on beautiful lines and intriguing materials. Local and global designers — including Tom Dixon, Egg Collective, Vincent Van Duysen, The Wooden Palate, Workstead, Piet Boon, Dim Atelier, Heather Rosenman, Apparatus Studio — intermingle freely, forging an aesthetic that is modern, timeless and always compelling.
