In this industry, it is rare to hear of anything being completed in just three months. However, when it came to redesigning a 3,000 square foot Newport Beach home for a family of four, Shannon McLaren Wilkins of PRARIE had the creative vision and team to create a new world record.
Originally tasked with a simple remodel that included painting, updating fixtures, finishes and interior furnishings, the scope quickly changed. “We were hired to do a mini-remodel and furnish the home lightly, since they wanted to tear it down in a few years,” notes the designer. “As we were shining it up with paint and new marble, the project grew bigger and bigger, and collectively we all fell in love the with the home and decided to invest in furniture pieces and art that would last a lifetime.”
The goal was to keep the walls and materials minimal while adding luxe textiles and highly-curated artwork. Wilkins worked closely with PMR Construction to retain the beautiful Mid-century integrity of the home while giving it some Palm Springs edge.
Even with little time, Wilkins and the PRARIE team installed custom furnishings including a beautiful dining table by House of Morrison that is surrounded by chairs from Noir.
Vintage finds are paired with organic pieces from Lawson-Fenning, Cisco Home, Restoration Hardware and more. While lush fabrics and wallpapers from Serena and Lily and Pindler add touches of sophisticated character.
Wilkins wrapped the boys room in a modern animal print from Bien Fait that is light and airy.
Wilkins’ keen sense for understanding what her clients want coupled with uncanny decisiveness helped contribute to the efficiency of this project. “We had a great team working on this project and fantastic clients that were very decisive and had impeccable taste,” says Wilkins. “We were all on the same page so it made it a very seamless and smooth project.”
