Tour this Napa Valley Retreat That You May Not Want to Leave
Author:Philip FerratoIt’s a time-honored technique–rent a place, even for a week or two, in a locale you’ve fallen in love with– before you make that life-altering (and expensive) commitment. A trial run after the initial flirtation, true, but we can think of no better way to get an in-depth acquaintance with Napa Valley than the Caspar Estate, a property that’s been in the same family since 1852.
The house is handsome and simple, and while entirely unpretentious, it’s got a distinctly Mediterranean vibe with plenty of shaded lounging space, great views and a glorious swimming pool.
Located in Rutherford on an elevated site with wide-open views of the valley, Casper Estate is a working property that sits on 25 acres, surrounded by its own vineyards and a heritage olive orchard. And while we all know about the area’s Michelin-starred restaurants, vineyards and chic spas, Caspar Estate is emblematic of another aspect of Napa life– the year-round, long-term commitment to stewardship of the land.
What We Love: The classic Tuscan grill, set on pulleys to raise and lower the cooking surface.
The interiors are simple and straightforward, and above all, comfortable.
