Life is Better at the SLS Baha Mar

The archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean known as The Bahamas is synonymous with exotic getaways and rejuvenating relaxing vacations. It’s no wonder that The SLS Group, known for their playful yet luxurious hotels in Miami, Beverly Hills, South Beach and Las Vegas, added it to their list of choice destination spots.

SLS Baha Mar is located on Baha Mar Boulevard in Nassau, the islands’ captivating and cosmopolitan capital. To bring the pink-tinged hotel to life, they enlisted the help of Los Angeles-based Avenue Interior Design tasking them with the design of the 299 guestrooms, the hotel’s lobby, the Privilege Pool Deck, Fi’lia Restaurant, and Sky Bar, the rooftop’s lounge

“The SLS Baha Mar project was exciting for Avenue because we loved helping bring this brand to life in a tropical location, specifically in the lobby and ballroom spaces,” says Avenue ID’s Ashley Manhan.  “It was important to keep the inherent ideas behind the brand — luxury, playfulness, style  — but make sure they related to the Bahamas and use local influences in thoughtful places.”

With that in mind, Manhan and partner Andrea DeRosa started by installing bleached walnut and white oak flooring throughout the property. Layered on top, a color palette of bleached tropical accents is offset by rich textural canvas of neutrals in linens, grasses, rattans, leathers, weathered stone and beach glass. This inspiration board was then tweaked to underline the vibe of each of the property’s different spaces.

In the hotel’s signature central lobby, Monkey Bar, that translates into a sly mix of seating and tables — cane ottomans, wicker peacock chairs, silvered coffee tables, delicate leather armchairs, slouchy linen-slipcovered seating, pale blue rounded back armchairs — perched on thin woven rugs and shaded by voluptuous greenery. Privelege, the day pool area, also emphasizes natural materials, neutral colors and a variety of textures, the perfect backdrop for both relaxing and partying.

Skybar, the duo notes, “is very social, with modular seating around the bar and intimate groupings around the perimeter. Natural teak wood decking and concrete accent tiles with brightly colored greens and graphic patterns act as accents throughout the space,” while Fi’lia restaurant swivels the spotlight to Chef Michael Schwartz’s amazing Italian fare. “We used natural oak wood, light marbles and stacks of playful artwork under picture lights to bring a warmth and feeling of eating at a family home.”
